“ The Second Amendment permits reasonable restrictions on the right to carry a firearm. This is the wrong answer,” House Speaker Adrienne Jones (D-Baltimore County) and Senate President Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City) said in a joint statement. “More guns in public means more violence, and more violence means more death and heartache everywhere. “There are different standards that they can put into it, but it will be far easier to get a gun going forward.”ĭemocratic leaders who control the General Assembly said they “fundamentally disagree” with the high court’s decision and would examine their options before deciding how to respond. “It’s not the ‘Wild West’ in the sense that anybody can have one,” he said. Gansler said Maryland lawmakers will likely be able to place certain restrictions on who can own a weapon, including a prior criminal record, mental health issues or domestic violence allegations. Once a challenge is filed, “the circuit court where will initially be held, in some county, will rely on this Supreme Court case, and it will be overturned,” he predicted. In an interview, former Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler (D) said it’s only a matter of time before Maryland’s current gun laws are overturned.Ī candidate for governor, Gansler said the New York law that just got struck down relies on different phrasing than Maryland’s, but they’re essentially identical. Additional information and guidance will be forthcoming.” The Maryland State Police, which may need to change the way gun licenses are issued, released a terse statement said the Supreme Court decision is “under legal review. “The Supreme Court’s common sense ruling shows that it is long past time we return the right of personal self-defense to the people of Maryland,” he said. Ready noted that 42 states and Washington, D.C., are “shall issue” jurisdictions, meaning they permit concealed carry without requiring gun owners to show a special need, while 14 states do not require a permit to carry, wear, or transport a handgun. Justin Ready (R-Carroll), who has sponsored legislation in the past to make it easier for Marylanders to carry concealed weapons without needing to offer justification, said Thursday the Supreme Court ruling showed that Maryland has an “out-of-the mainstream statute restricting law-abiding citizens from possessing firearms.” The ruling from the Supreme Court clears the way for legal challenges to Maryland’s restrictions, and state policymakers may have to change their current law to be in accord with the Supreme Court ruling. The decision has the potential to make similar concealed carry laws unconstitutional in some states, including Maryland. “he Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home,” Thomas wrote. Bruen, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the court found that New York’s law requiring gun owners to demonstrate a need for self-defense in order to carry a firearm “is demanding.” In a 6-3 decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Assoc. The opinion comes at the same time Congress is considering new gun control legislation following two deadly mass shootings. ![]() The court ruled that New York’s concealed carry law violates the 14th Amendment of the Constitution - a major decision that expands the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. If they’re dirty, their ability to lock focus accurately is impaired. The contacts between your lens and your camera channel information back and forth between the lens and the camera. There’s rarely a solution to this problem except that you need to find a spot where the ground between you and your subject is cooler. This problem affects telephoto shooters more than wide angle shooters. This makes the auto-focusing system of your camera go haywire. When warm air rises up, it mixes with the cool air above and that creates a difference in air densities. If it’s a hot and sunny day you could actually be fighting heat refraction. That means when you rely on the AF point, your focusing is going to be off. It can sometimes be not quite at the place that the guide seems to point at. You know those red or yellow AF points? They’re not always consistent with where the AF point is actually positioned. Wrong AF mode can be a problem for poor AF performance 4. The same way, if your camera AF area mode is incorrectly set you are going to have problems. ![]() If it is anything other than AF-C (or Continuous Servo AF) you’ve got a problem. E.g., if you are photographing birds and you seem to be getting blurred images all the time check the active AF mode. One of the most common problems for consistently not getting a sharp image is that your camera is set to the wrong AF mode. Then use a manual blower to dust the AF sensor. To do this set your camera to Sensor Cleaning Mode. It is a good idea to periodically clean your sensor when your camera is consistently front or backfocusing. This problem is compounded when you’re shooting in low light or low contrast subjects. Dirty AF sensors can impair the ability of your camera to focus precisely. There is another set of sensors that are located at the base of the camera. When we talk about sensors we only refer to the main sensor that sits behind the mirror. There are other off-camera options such as LensAlign and FoCal. This is known as AF fine-tune or AF Micro Adjust feature. Some cameras come with a built-in process to recalibrate your lens for that particular camera-lens combination. This is not something really serious and it can be adjusted pretty quickly. If your lens is consistently focusing in front or back of the intended point of focus, your lens needs to be calibrated. A camera’s auto-focusing performance depends on a number of aspects and any one of them can throw it haywire: What works at one print size won't work as well at another. If you’re consistently struggling with poor auto-focus performance and want to know how you can improve, this video from Steve Perry is a treasure-trove of ideas that you can use. This is also why sharpening is applied to give the desired effect ![]() It just emphasises what detail is there to fool the eye. But that does not recover detail I lost due to the bad focus. I can take a slightly out of focus image and apply sharpening to it carefully to give an improved appearance. ![]() You can only add the appearance of more detail or enhance the image to make detail more apparent to the eye. To put that another way, what is in focus is as detailed as it can be at the aperture used. You cannot really improve focus in the same way. You can improve the appearance sharpness ( to some extent ) by using appropriate post processing ( "sharpening" ). The simplest way to think of it is that "sharp" is a visual effect, whereas something being in focus or out of focus is a technical measure. The earliest generation of machine trimmers earned an understandably poor reputation. The best machines offer varying capacities, speeds, and power-some handle impossibly large batches, while others are specifically designed for smaller growing operations with a more modest output. These costs can prove to be astronomical and prohibitive to the success of the operation. As such, the labor costs associated with employing a team of weed trimmers adds up for cultivators. With all those hours of hard work, skilled cannabis bud trimmers should be generously compensated. The work takes a physical toll on your trimming team since the method forces them to hunch over their workstations for hours on end. Following mantle melting, three magmatic stages cause water contents to increase (fractional crystallization), decrease (H 2 degassing during melt extraction), and then increase again (crystallization of apatite). The measurements of both volatile (namely, water) contents and hydrogen isotopes in both late-forming apatite minerals and ilmenite-hosted melt inclusions are together able to track the zigzagging of water contents back to the source. Attaining the water content from the lunar mantle as calculated from the measured contents of the basaltic rocks requires backtracking the effects of magmatic evolution. Water abundances of the Moon's interior are a highly controversial topic, with estimates spanning three orders of magnitude that range between an essentially anhydrous lunar mantle to very elevated water abundances on par with Earth's mantle. One possible explanation is elevated water contents in the Chang’E-5 lunar mantle source because water lowers the melting temperature, thereby requiring less heat to generate melt. The 2 Ga Chang’E-5 age squarely fills this gap and anchors the cratering chronology curve. Specifically, between the old and young ages of these existing samples, the cratering curve exhibits a significant change in shape, but there was a 2-billion-year-long gap in dated samples, leaving this critical portion of the curve unanchored. If the impacting rate were constant, then the curve would be straight, but, based on Apollo samples, it is not, making calibration critical. This allows the cratering chronology curve to be calibrated. Luckily, not only does the Moon preserve a long impacting history but it is close enough that we are able to sample rocks and precisely date them with radioisotopic dating. However, translating the crater count of a rocky region into an approximate age relies heavily on the impact cratering flux in the solar system. Generally, older surfaces have accumulated more impact craters and younger surfaces have less. The Moon is a unique resource for our being able to date the surfaces of other moons and planets in the solar system, some of which can only be dated using “crater counting” chronology. The Chang’E-5 basalts are thus the youngest dated Moon rocks and they extend the duration of mare volcanism 800–900 million years longer than previously known ( Figure 1A). Irrespectively, the two independent laboratories in Beijing arrived at indistinguishable ages within uncertainty. 3 Zirconium-bearing minerals were only <5 μm wide, thus the ∼3-μm spot size of one study, 3 compared with ∼7 μm in the other, 2 also provided additional accuracy by avoiding terrestrial, laboratory-derived Pb contamination along grain boundaries. The age on Zr-rich minerals from the Science study 2 agrees well with the robust 2,030 ± 4 Ma age. The second study reporting Chang’E-5 geochronology, published in Nature 3 on October 19 th, yielded a strikingly precise age of 2,030 ± 4 Ma based on 51 grains of Zr-rich minerals from 47 rock fragments. ![]() The first geochronology study of Chang’E-5 was published in Science 2 on October 7 th and reported two types of ages: one age (1,963 ± 57 million years ago ) is based on 18 analyses of two rock fragments the other age (2,011 ± 50 Ma) relies exclusively on Zr-bearing minerals ideal for dating due to U enrichment with negligible non-radiogenic Pb (lunar initial Pb). Two geochronology studies have been conducted on the Chang’E-5 basalts, both employing the Pb-Pb isochron method ( 204Pb/ 206Pb versus 207Pb/ 206Pb), which has proven reliable in the study of Apollo basalts. However, as with any new data, as some questions are answered, new ones always arise. ![]() How long did mare volcanism last, and, if volcanic activity persisted quite late in lunar history, what was the Moon's secret to a longer life? These are the questions that the Chang’E-5 samples, the first lunar samples returned to Earth in 44 years, can begin to answer. It was first critical to establish, as published in National Science Review, 1 that the samples collected by Chang’E-5 from the highly impacted lunar regolith indeed had compositional affinity to mare basalts. ![]() Based on crater counting chronology (see below), the selected landing site targeted potentially some of the youngest rocks on the Moon ( Figure 1B).
